CAWSTON
RANCH
This 32 000 acre property, 60 km (40 miles) north of Bulawayo (GPS
S19° 42' 19.09", E28° 21' 14.77") on
the Victoria Falls road, had very little game or grass when we bought
it 20 years ago. Intensive management, some luck with the rains, and
major re-stocking of wildlife effected a transformation and the result
is a superb plains game/leopard safari area, a piece of almost
pristine bush with a wide range of plains game species of free-roaming
wild animals. In addition to the animals listed, you can see cheetah and
a wonderful
bird life, so there are excellent opportunities for photography.
We also run a commercial ostrich venture here.
Bow hunting is our speciality and we have one of the best bow hunting
setups in Africa. 17 blinds, some ground level, some on stilts, have
been built at waterholes and are equipped to enable bow hunters to
wait and watch in some comfort and finally to choose their target.
Rifle hunters are of course also most welcome and enjoy the varied
savannah bush and the good results from our fair chase hunting.
CAWSTON CAMP
The camp site was hacked out of a rocky hillside and now presents a delightful
oasis of green lawns, shaded tents and deep thatched rooflines, overlooking
a small waterhole where game comes to drink. Tents are East African
safari-style, wonderfully comfortable with electricity and hot and
cold water, so the
ladies in particular can feel very comfortable. We provide plenty
of good food and attentive service and aim to make your stay a memorable
one. Non-hunters
can take advantage of the proximity of Bulawayo and the Matopos Hills,
and even Victoria Falls (4 hours away) to go shopping and sight-seeing.
