Bow & Rifle Hunting

in Zimbabwe

Leopard, sable and plains game - guided by licensed Professional Hunters.

One of Zimbabwe's Premier Hunting Destinations

Rosslyn Safaris offers premium bow and rifle hunting for leopard, sable and plains game at Cawston Block – a dedicated safari area of 32,000 acres just north of Bulawayo.  We offer primarly bow hunting with excellent bow blinds and quality stalking available.  Rifle hunters are also welcome, and every effort is made to not book a rifle hunter at the same time as a bow hunter unless they are in the same group.

We can also combine our hunts with dangerous game hunts on other properties in Zimbabwe, creating a truly unique and customised safari experience.

World-Class Bow Hunting

Purpose-Built Blinds.

Shots Within 25 Yards.

Rosslyn Safaris is renowned as a premier bow hunting destination in Zimbabwe.  Our purpose-built blinds vary across sunken, ground and raised designs – making changes in wind conditions easy to work with.

Waterholes are either concrete or natural mud, shaped to provide optimal positions for the perfect shot – from a few yards to a maximum of 25 yards.  Animals seen at such close range make for outstanding hunting and photography opportunities.

For more challenging experience, there are plenty of opportunities to stalk your animals across all 32,000 acres of open wilderness.

BEST SEASON

May to early November - outside the main rain season. November to April available for walk & stalk only.

A TYPICAL BOW DAY

Morning and evening: spot and stalk. Midday: waterhole stakeout. A full picnic lunch is provided in the blind with snacks and drinks.

LEOPARD HUNTING

Early mornings spent checking baits. Afternoons at waterholes for plains game before settling into the leopard blind at dusk.

CLOTHING

Use quiet clothing - cotton or wool in the blind, no synthetic fabrics that rustle. Ghillie suits are welcome.

Free-Range Rifle Hunting

Across 32,000 Acres

Walk-and-Stalk Across

Diverse Terrain

32,000 acres of open wilderness rewards patient, skilled rifle hunters.  Walk-and-stalk pursuits across varied terrain for sable, eland, kudu, giraffe, warthog, bushpig, zebra, blue wildebeest, impala and bushbuck.

The absence of dangerous game on the property makes us the perfect environment for a child’s first hunt.  If this is your first hunt in Africa, investing in an African animal shot placement book is well worth it.

A typical day starts early with a warming cup of coffee and a light breakfast.  Midday is spending resting in camp, with hunting resuming once temperatures cool in the afternoon.

RECOMMENDED CALIBRE

.300+ for plains game (.30-06, .308, 7x57). Peter hunted most of his life with a Springfield .30-06 - and shot everything from plains game to moose and grizzly bear.

DANGEROUS GAME

Minimum .375 for buffalo and elephant. Avoid high-velocity rifles - unsuitable for Zimbabwe's thicker bush where shots are at closer range.

RIFLE HIRE

We have calibres .223, .308, .30-06 and .375 rifles available to hire. We also have bows - you will need to travel with your own arrows. Just ask when booking.

PRACTICE BEFORE ARRIVAL

Practice at 80-150 yards using shooting sitcks. Most shots in Zimbabwe's bush are taken from shooting sticks, not a rest.
